Hadley Perry Pacheco: “What is Rotary?”
On Monday July 10, 2017, we installed our 2017-2018 Board of Officers and Directors led by President Hadley Perry Pacheco. Hadley posed the question “What is Rotary?” followed by her personal story of how she came to be a Rotarian and what Rotary means to her. She encouraged each of us to think about our own Rotary story – why did we join and what keeps us coming back. Hadley also unveiled the Rotary International theme for this year is Rotary: Making a Difference along with the accompanying logo and banner as featured on this bulletin. Through this theme, we will answer the question of “What is Rotary?” as a Club this year. Hadley closed her remarks with a challenge to our Club to commit to make a difference this year. Our club has lost two of its dearest members within a very short span of time: John Charles Brinton(1930-2017) and Edward Franklin Dement (1944 – 2017).
John was laid to rest on Tuesday following a moving rememberence at our Monday meeting by fellow Rotarians, guests, and members of his family (picured).
A visitation and funeral services will be held for Ed Dement on Friday, July 14 at Providence Baptist Church, 4921 Randolph Road. The visitation will begin at 10:30AM with a service following at 12:00PM. A vehicle procession will then follow at Sharon Memorial Gardens, located at the corner of Sharon Amity and Monroe Road.
Ed’s wife Barbara will also join us at our Club meeting this Monday July 17, where we will spend some time remembering Ed and his service to our Club. Please come ready with your favorite Ed stories.
