A member of the Rotary Club of Charlotte South since 1994, Tom is a third generation Rotarian who has served the Club and it’s Foundation in various roles. The positions include Health and Happiness, Speakers Chair, Board Member of the Club’s Foundation and Club President 2009-10. He is a recipient of the Club’s Distinguished Rotarian Award.
During his term as President he was instrumental in updating the club’s Bylaws to reflect current club organization. The club’s second fundraiser The World Wine Tasting Tour was introduced during his term as a source of additional funds for club projects. The club won the District Gold Level of Excellence and Best of the Best Club Award during his tenure.
He has been an active participant in club service project over the years ranging from Bus Captain for the Club’s signature project Beach Blast to manual labor in the garden projects at the Men’s Shelter and McCreesh Place and Mentor at Meyer Park High School Afternoon Academy.
Tom served as Assistant Governor for the District for the years 2012-2013, 2013-2014 and 2014-2015. A Graduate of RLI he is also active with Seminar for Tomorrow’s Leaders as an Assistant Facilitator and Mentor.
He is a Benefactor, a member of the Bequest Society, Paul Harris Fellow, a Sustaining Member and a Major Donor Level II.
He has had the pleasure to attend the Rotary International Convention in Birmingham England and Montreal Canada.
A graduate of Emory University he holds a MBA from Wake Forest University. He is currently a Senior Vice President with BB&T in Charlotte and manages large commercial loans in Western North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina.
He has served as a member of NC SeaGrant Fisheries Management Grants Committee, North Carolina Marine Fisheries Inland Advisory Committee, and North Carolina Striped Bass Fisheries Management Plan Committee and currently serves on the North Carolina Marine Fisheries Southern Advisory Committee. He is member of South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church.
Tom resides in Weddington, North Carolina with his wife Paula, her parents and their three Llewellyn Setters. He has two grown sons and enjoys Paula’s four grandchildren. He is an active outdoorsman who enjoys a range of activities from fishing, hunting and sporting clays to gardening.
