Dedication to Community
A 34-year veteran of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, Garry McFadden became one of CMPD’s most decorated law enforcement officers after spending 30 years as a detective and 20 years in its homicide unit. Ending a stellar career, Garry retired in 2011 and was quickly rehired by the City of Charlotte and assigned to work in CMPD’s Office of the Chief of Police.
Garry is a proud graduate of Johnson C. Smith University and is certified by many other schools and universities in the areas of investigations and forensics. A powerful community advocate, he works with education, religious, government and corporate organizations to provide society with Public Safety and Life Skills information that’s changed (and undoubtedly saved) countless lives.
Mr. McFadden has also received numerous professional accolades and awards, such as CMPD’s Medal of Valor; the Law Enforcement Commendation Medal from the National Society of Sons of The American Revolution; the 2011 Detective of the Year award from the Queen City Optimist Club; Charlotte Observer’s Community Relations Award and other recognition; the NAACP’s Ashanti Award as an Unsung Hero; the 2011 Chief of Police Outstanding Service Award from CMPD, and an FBI Distinguished Service Award for Homicide Investigation.
