Ending Chronic Homelessness

Emergency Shelter

We operate Mecklenburg County’s only two year-round emergency shelters for men experiencing homelessness. Basic needs are met, including a bed, meals, restroom/shower facilities, laundry, and personal hygiene items. A host of on-site services is also available including a volunteer-run Housing and Employment Resource Center (HERC), substance abuse and mental health services, peer support, medical respite, and bi-monthly visits from volunteer dentists.

Support Services To Move Men To More Appropriate Housing

Our support services include a case management team dedicated to helping men increase their income and identify and move into more appropriate housing. Work around income focuses on increasing job readiness, gaining employment, and accessing community benefits. Housing case managers work side-by-side with our men to explore appropriate options. This includes moving into market rentals, being reunited with family, or securing placement in a permanent or longer-term community supportive housing program.

Our services are delivered in the spirit of an equation:

Family Reunification and Diversion

We also employ three part-time case managers focused on what we call “diversion.” They are available during varied hours, seven days a week at our North Tryon Street campus. The team is charged with helping individuals experiencing homelessness to immediately reunite with family or secure alternative housing without having to enter shelter care.
