Upcoming Service Project: Annual Thanksgiving Dinner

Posted By Marc Friedland

It is time once again for one of Charlotte-South’s favorite projects which involves serving a complete Thanksgiving Dinner for a local adult day care and day health center. This club tradition has continued for 15+ years, and this year the benefactors will be the participants of the Piedmont Adult Living Services (PALS). PALS is located on the property of Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church, 1201 South Blvd., Charlotte.
On Wednesday, November 18, 2009, we will serve approximately 45 olderand disabled adults, many of whom are economically disadvantaged. Theseparticipants live in the community with family members but have healthconditions that do not allow them to stay home alone during the daywhile family members work. PALS offers daytime care for theparticipants along with activities to keep the adults active and happythroughout the day.

We will purchase precooked food at Harris Teeter, including turkey andall the trimmings, and will need six to eight volunteers to re-heat andplate the food in the kitchen. We will need additional volunteers tomeet and visit with the participants and help serve the meals.

For those who want to work in the kitchen, please arrive at PALS onNovember 18 at 10:00 a.m. and, for those who want to serve the mealsand visit with participants, plan to arrive by 11:00 a.m. We will servethe meals at approximately 12:00 noon and then will distribute giftbags to each participant. Please sign up for this project by e-mailingLuAnn Peters at luannpeters@gmail.com and indicate whether you willhelp in the kitchen or serve the meals.
